14 Guiding Principles of Continuous Improvement
|
-
Constancy of purpose
- We should all work towards the same goal of achieving our Vision and Mission.
-
Adopt a new style of management
- Management must be responsive to the needs of all Partners. Managers should
provide leadership by example, coaching and empowerment.
-
Cease dependence on inspection
- Quality can not be "inspected into" a product. We must build quality into the
process or product from the start.
-
Avoid doing business on price tag alone
- We must consider quality of product and services as well as the cost. Cheaper
is not always better if it does not meet our needs
-
Continuous Improvement of processes
- We must constantly look for ways to eliminate waste and improve our
processes. All work should be "value-added."
-
Training and re-training
- Our customers' needs and the technology required to meet those needs is
constantly changing. Ongoing training and re-training on processes and
equipment will help us meet those needs.
-
Continuous Improvement of leadership
- Management must practice "servant leadership" and help their Partners
develop. Also, we must provide management with the skills they need to be
successful leaders, such as communications, teamwork, and coaching.
-
Drive out fear
- Management should not intimidate or instill fear in their Partners. We must
also overcome the fear of change.
-
Departments must work together
- This must occur not just at each site, but also across locations. We are all
working towards the same goal and we have to communicate our needs, problems
and successes in order to get there.
-
Continuous Improvement provides its own motivation
- Success motivates us to further improve our processes.
-
Work standards and quotas shall not limit our performance
- Quotas and standards tend to "cap" our abilities to make improvements.
-
Remove barriers that rob Partners of their right to pride in workmanship
- Management must help remove obstacles that prevent Partners from doing their
best.
-
Institute education and self-improvement
- Management must support the Company's practice of investing in our Partners
and encouraging their development.
-
Do it - Everyone must accept responsibility for Continuous
Improvement.
