At Pilgrim's Pride, the preservation and protection of the vital natural resources of clean air, clean water and land is a high priority. Pilgrim's Pride also places a high priority on the operation of our facilities and conduct of business in compliance with the laws and regulations of those communities in which we operate. Pilgrim's Pride is strongly committed to continual improvement of our environmental performance, the reduction of wastes and pollution, the minimization of energy and water usage, and the sustainable utilization of resources. Pilgrim's Pride resolves to be a good corporate citizen and neighbor by adhering to the following environmental objectives:
- Achieving measurable reductions in the generation of wastes and pollutants on an ongoing basis, and furthering the concept of Sustainable Development and practicing environmental stewardship
- Compliance with all applicable environmental laws and regulations
- Periodic assessment of Company operations to determine regulatory compliance and to review environmental performance
- Commitment to take all appropriate steps to correct environmental deficiencies
This policy statement shall be implemented and communicated to all employees. Accountability for this policy implementation is at facility general management level. Program guidance to support facility general management will be provided by legal, quality assurance, environmental engineering, and operations management.
Notices and Reporting
Plant management is responsible to promptly notify the Environmental Engineering Department of the following situations:
- Emergency release of materials
- Notices of violation and proposed consent agreements
- Test results indicating non-compliance with permit
- Permit renewal notification
- Equipment malfunctions for environmental control systems
- Public complaints related to environmental issues
- Negotiations to resolve consent order or permit compliance
The Environmental Engineering Department is responsible for conducting periodic assessments of facilities. Reports will be provided to facility general managers, operations managers and the legal department.
